SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors have decided to file a new charge against a man accused of hitting Sacramento, California mayor Kevin Johnson in the face with a coconut cream pie.
The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2sksJWB) that local activist Sean Thompson is scheduled to go on trial in August on a new misdemeanor charge.
Sacramento County prosecutors initially charged Thompson with felony assault in connection with the September pie attack at a charity event. Johnson responded by punching Thompson.
A judge last month declared a mistrial on the felony charge after jurors could not reach a verdict.
Thompson’s attorney, Claire White, said her client was practicing civil disobedience, and she was disappointed that prosecutors decided to pursue another trial.
