TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) - Amazon will create 1,500 full-time jobs when it opens its fulfillment center next summer in Oregon.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported (https://bit.ly/2s8yUNQ ) Wednesday that the online retailer is opening a $178.4 million facility in Troutdale, about 17 miles east of Portland.
Online orders will be filled, packed and shipped in the 855,000-square-foot (79,431-square-meter) plant, which will be the first of its kind in Oregon.
Construction on the plant will begin this year and wrap up by July 2018.
Gov. Kate Brown says Amazon’s expansion to Oregon will bring “great jobs with competitive wages and bright futures for its employees and communities.”
Full-time employees also will get access to a program that pre-pays as much as 95 percent of college tuition for courses related to in-demand fields.
