SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A member of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has scheduled a series of meetings next week to hear from customers about a rate hike sought by the state’s largest electric utility.
Commissioner Sandy Jones wants to gather comments from residents in southern New Mexico on the Public Service Co. of New Mexico’s proposal.
Meetings will be held in the afternoons and early evenings in Silver City, Deming, Los Lunas and Alamogordo.
The utility reached a settlement last month with the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office and other groups that would result in higher rates being phased in over the next two years.
Residential customers would see an annual increase of 3.9 percent in 2018 and an additional 3.4 percent in 2019.
The commission still has to approve the settlement.
