MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - As promised, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott has vetoed the state budget and a property tax bill as part of what he says is a broader effort to save money on a statewide health plan for all school employees.
The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2s12J2P ) reports that Scott said the Legislature had failed his standard of “making Vermont more affordable in every way we can.”
Scott issued the vetoes Tuesday as part of his push to set up a statewide health plan for all school employees. He says such a move would help save $26 million a year after new lower-cost health plans take effect in January.
Democratic and Progressive lawmakers tried, but failed to reach a compromise.
What’s expected to be a two-day veto-session is set for June 21.
