PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A second mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of a Rhode Island man accused of killing his girlfriend two decades after killing another girlfriend.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2qUIDa6 ) a judge in Providence declared a mistrial Monday in Andrew Jett’s case, citing “multiple discovery violations by the prosecution” that affected the fairness of the trial.

A mistrial was declared last month after a witness made a disclosure about facts the jurors weren’t supposed to hear.

Jett is charged with killing 50-year-old Michelle Busby at her East Providence apartment in 2012. Police said they found signs of a violent struggle.

Jett’s lawyers say police focused on him because of his criminal history. Jett previously pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the 1992 death of his then-girlfriend, Stephanie Oxendine.
