NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The dispute over a fence that infringed on a portion of Rhode Island’s Cliff Walk has been resolved.
The Newport Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2qQpaDE ) that the property owners who erected the chain-link fence, Lee and Amy Warner, have moved the structure back. Officials say the Warners’ fence took up 12 to 18 inches of the path.
Rhode Island’s Coastal Resources Management Council issued a violation notice to the Warners in May 2016 because the couple didn’t seek approval from the agency for the fence work. The Warners filed an application to keep the fence.
Attorneys for the Warners and city officials later negotiated a resolution. City officials say the fence now restores the border along the Cliff Walk and doesn’t infringe on the designated public easement.
