NEWARK, Del. (AP) - The University of Delaware has released an instructional video on surviving an active shooter situation for freshmen.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports the video briefing comes in the wake of a rise in active shooter attacks in the United States. UD Police Chief Patrick Ogden says that such events on and off college campuses led to the issuing of guidance.

The department endorses the “Run. Hide. Fight.” active shooting protocol, which lays out the titular three options, in order of risk for surviving an attack.

Ogden says the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting “changed campus policing as we now know it.” UD officers carry handguns and rifles on patrol, and the department has a special weapons and tactics team and a conflict negotiation team.
