BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Gov. Doug Burgum is adding five North Dakota counties to his executive order on drought assistance for livestock producers.
Burgum on Friday expanded coverage under the Drought Disaster Livestock Water Supply Program, in response to this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor. The additional areas include counties designated as being in extreme drought and adjacent counties, including Stutsman, Logan, McIntosh, LaMoure and Dickey.
The amendment allows the State Water Commission to expand the number of counties eligible for the livestock water supply program if additional counties are declared to be in extreme drought.
Burgum also urged all residents and visitors to use extreme caution with fireworks and campfires over the Fourth of July holiday weekend because of the drought conditions.
