YORK, Pa. (AP) - A former central Pennsylvania county jail nurse has been ordered to spend two years on probation for having an improper relationship with an inmate.

The York Daily Record (https://bit.ly/2snAqIz ) reports that 25-year-old Shelby Houck of Mechanicsburg pleaded guilty in York County to official oppression and was sentenced Friday.

Houck was originally charged in July with institutional sexual assault while working as an employee of PrimeCare Medical Inc., which is contracted to provide health care at the jail.

Authorities said the inmate would complain of illness so they could spend time together. Defense attorney John Yaninek said “There was nothing more to it” and his client was about 23 at the time and “made a mistake.”

Houck will be barred from working at a school or prison while on probation.
