BUCHANAN, N.Y. (AP) - A nuclear power plant at Indian Point in Westchester County has reopened after being shut down due to a faulty water pump.
Indian Point’s owner, Entergy Corporation, says the Unit 2 power plant in Buchanan (byoo-KAN’-uhn) was running Thursday after workers completed repairs to one of its feedwater pumps.
Entergy says feedwater pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant. They distribute water to the plant’s four steam generators to be reheated in order to make the steam required to generate electricity.
The company says there was no release of radioactivity and no threat to workers or the public’s safety during the three-day shutdown.
Earlier this year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Entergy reached a deal to shut down Indian Point entirely by April 2021.
