The Supreme Court failing to take up Peruta v. California is not just a blow to the Second Amendment of the Constitution, it is a serious blow to the integrity of our entire government and may well be the final blow the integrity of the Supreme Court (“Stung by denial, gun rights advocates vow to bring other concealed carry cases before Supreme Court,” Web, June 26). The court effectively said the only place in which you can defend your life and the lives of your family members is in your own home, and that you give up the right to self-protection in the other 3.8 million square miles of America.

A hundred million legal-firearm owners in America understand perfectly the intent of the Second Amendment. Apparently, however, seven Supreme Court Justices don’t. Instead they are committed to enacting their own far-left, “progressive” political agenda — in clear violation of their oaths of office.

Based on this and other rulings from the Roberts-led court, everyday Americans cannot look to the Supreme Court for justice against an overreaching government. It’s time for a constitutional amendment mandating term limits for federal-court judges and a method for the American people, not just Congress, to remove justices who fail to do what they were appointed to do: interpret law based on the Constitution and the clear intent of the Founding Fathers.
