Unlike some of his liberal counterparts in Hollywood like Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep, Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges said he’s actually “rooting for” President Trump to do what’s right for the country.
“Everybody has something different and unique to contribute to society and with different ways of doing it,” the “Hell or High Water” star told the Associated Press during an interview Wednesday.
“Some people will be blatantly out there talking about their disappointments and ridiculing the way President Trump is acting,” he said.
“I’m rooting for him to do well by our country,” he added. “I’m rooting for him as a human being to do the cool thing.”
Mr. Bridges, an ambassador for the “No Kid Hungry” campaign, made the comments after taking part in a panel on child hunger at a meeting of the Western Governors Association in Whitefish, Montana, AP reported.
He made similar remarks shortly after the election, saying he appreciated Mr. Trump’s unpredictability and ability to appeal to disaffected Americans.
“One of the things that’s most appealing about him is his unpredictability,” he said in November. “A less kind word might be his hypocrisy, but unpredictability and hypocrisy are things that each of us human being share. It’s something we all struggle with and work with. I’m rooting for the guy, but we’ll see how it all goes. You just don’t know how it will all work out.”
Mr. Bridges endorsed Hillary Clinton’s failed Democratic presidential campaign last summer.
