Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Democrat lawmakers are being ridiculed for their health care rhetoric in a popular new YouTube video.
ReasonTV artist Remy Munasifi on Wednesday released “People Will Die!,” a new song parody that tallied over 40,000 views in less than 24 hours on YouTube. The video serves as the libertarian organization’s response to lawmakers who use red herrings, appeals to emotion and other logical fallacies to demonize opponents.
“These cuts are blood money. People will die,” Ms. Warren says in a C-SPAN clip as stringed instruments and beats begin.
Mr. Munasifi plays characters Sen. Max Hyperbole and Sen. Guy Knowsbetter to demonstrate how the “people will die” line can be used on any public policy that involves health and safety.
“Why not weigh all the costs — the effects, the results? Empathize with each other as if we were adults. Use our brains to craft arguments, not vilify,” Mr. Munasifi raps as a level-headed observer. “See that freedom’s a trade-off.
“You want people to die!” counters a fictitious lawmaker.
Other notable Democrats who share Ms. Warren’s approach include Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“Let us be clear and this is not trying to be overly dramatic: Thousands of people will die if the Republican health care bill becomes law,” Mr. Sanders tweeted Friday.
In her own tweet, Mrs. Clinton added, “Forget death panels. If Republicans pass this bill, they’re the death party.”
Both responses came one day after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released his “discussion draft” of the Republican Party’s latest health care bill.
