GWINNER, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a man piloting a crop spraying plane was killed when the plane crashed in a bean field in southeastern North Dakota.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the Air Tractor agricultural spray plane crashed Thursday morning nine miles west of Gwinner.
The pilot was a man from Barney who died in the crash. His name was not immediately released.
Authorities say the plane took off from the Lisbon airport and crashed shortly afterward about 1,500 feet south of Highway 13.
Sargent County Sheriff Travis Paeper tells KFGO (https://bit.ly/2uojjGJ ) dense fog in the area is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The pilot was working for an area crop spraying company. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
