The days of the triangle in New York are over.
The New York Knicks moved on from President Phil Jackson Wednesday. A team press release cast the move as Jackson and the Knicks “mutually agreeing to part ways,” but The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported owner James Dolan wanted Jackson out.
Jackson had committed an embarrassing number of public displays surrounding the Knicks, ranging from openly trying to get star Carmelo Anthony to waive his no-trade clause and entertaining the possibility of trading Kristaps Porzingis.
The Knicks saw no improvement under Jackson, who was hired in 2014. New York was 80-166 in that span, including a franchise-worst 17-65 during the 2014-15 season.
Wojnarowski reported that the Knicks want Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri to take over the team. Ujiri is familiar to Knicks fans as he’s the one who orchestrated the Anthony trade for the Denver Nuggets and got the Knicks to trade a first-round pick to Toronto for Andrea Bargnani.
