HONOLULU (AP) - Computer problems have disrupted driver license and motor vehicle registration services across Hawaii.

Honolulu partially closed driver licensing centers on Wednesday. Kauai and Hawaii counties are suspending license and motor vehicle registration processing. Maui County is urging only those with urgent needs to come in for renewals.

Honolulu says the city’s mainframe computers shut down Monday morning and processing remained sluggish the rest of the day. The system was operational Tuesday morning but not at full capacity.

Services are affected statewide because other counties use Honolulu’s mainframe computers to process driver license and motor vehicle registration applications.

Honolulu says there are issues with the compatibility of newly installed mainframe hardware and existing software.
