North Korean state media compared U.S. President Trump’s “America First” policies to modern-day Nazism in an article published Monday.
The Korean Central News Agency claimed that the “ferocious, brutal and chauvinistic nature” of the “American version of Nazism” had far surpassed the brutality of Adolf Hitler’s regime, according to an article titled, “We Reject ’American-first Principle’- Nazism in the 21st Century,” cited by KCNA Watch on Tuesday.
“Anti-immigration politics, little short of fascism’s racist politics, has touched off aversion from big businesses which are gaining big benefits by relying on immigrated men of talents, and has sparked off derision by the world people as it denied the history of the U.S. itself, a multi-national and multi-racial country,” the article read.
It went on to describe U.S.-imposed economic sanctions on Pyongyang as “an unethical and inhumane act, far exceeding the degree of Hitler’s blockade of Leningrad,” and called on “all countries and nations” of the world to fight against U.S. hegemonism.
“The frantic ideology and forces harassing world peace and security and threatening the existence of human being have to be expelled from this planet,” it read. “This is our demand and, at the same time, the urgent call of humankind.”
The report comes amid heightened tensions between North Korea and the Trump administration following the death of Otto Warmbier, an American student who was held by North Korea for 17 months before being released in a coma to the U.S. earlier this month. He died six days after his release.
