PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Health has recommended closing two beaches for swimming due to high bacteria counts.

The agency said Sunday afternoon it’s recommending the closing of Warren Town Beach in Warren and King Park Beach in Newport.

The department’s website shows that Conimicut Point Beach and Oakland Beach in Warwick remain closed.

When the DOH recommends a beach closure, water quality analysis is conducted by the department’s laboratory or a state-certified laboratory. The status of a beach can change daily.
