COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to a Medicaid fraud scheme that authorities say resulted in $2 million worth of bogus claims.

Forty-nine-year-old Cheryl McGrath, of Rome Township, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Columbus to one count of health care fraud and one count of willful failure to pay employment taxes. She was charged last week.

McGrath operated a home health care business in southeast Ohio’s Athens County. Prosecutors say she filed false Medicaid claims for services that weren’t rendered, including for people in nursing homes or who were dead.

A plea agreement calls for McGrath to pay $2.2 million in restitution to Medicaid and $367,000 to the IRS for the unpaid taxes.

McGrath’s attorney didn’t return telephone messages seeking comment.
