SEATTLE (AP) - Federal officials say conservation measures have led to an increase in the population of two species of rockfish and a possible easing of fishing restrictions.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tells The Seattle Times (https://bit.ly/2p7zusN) in a story on Saturday that bocaccio and darkblotched rockfish are rebounding.

The bocaccio that can grow up to 3 feet (1 meter) and the smaller darkblotched rockfish were declared overfished in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

Scientists say the fish have rebounded from low levels faster than expected.

Officials say fishing restrictions could be eased in 2019.
