Pundit Mika Brzezinski says President Trump’s administration resembles a “developing dictatorship.”
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough told his fiancée on Friday that she appeared to be channeling the demeanor of former prosecutor Greta Van Susteren as she likened the commander in chief to a North Korean dictator. She warned her audience that “very negative forces” may be consuming the nation.
“The is unprecedented to have a president who behaves this way,” Ms. Brzezinski said. “Can anyone go back in history? I tried. [Random House editor Jon Meacham] stretched as best he could to Nixon, and then we had to move outside the United States of America to find a parallel. I believe it was North Korea. It does feel like a developing dictatorship. … You can do some work reading books about how dictatorships happen, the development of very negative forces taking over. And what you are seeing is either this happening right now, or someone who is not well.”
Ms. Brzezinski’s analysis came less than one day after Fox News host Sean Hannity mocked their show with a montage of dire commentary.
“I am willing to pay, out of my pocket, out of love and sympathy, for therapy, for a year, so your new, beautiful relationship can thrive in the Trump era,” Mr. Hannity told the engaged couple Thursday night, Mediaite reported. “So, emotionally, you’ll be stronger and able to cope in these difficult times.”
Mr. Hannity and the “Morning Joe” team have an ongoing feud over coverage of the White House.
Mr. Scarborough, for example, excoriated the Fox star’s recent coverage of the unsolved shooting death of former DNC staffer Seth Rich.
“Now we are reduced to fake news and Sean Hannity ripping the hearts out of parents for their son, their young, gifted son who was shot in the back and trying to twist that into something that somehow helps Donald Trump,” the MSNBC host said May 26. “It’s gross and it’s repulsive.”
