GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A 57-year-old Colorado man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a steamer trunk in his closet.

Prosecutors said David Batty of Greeley strangled 49-year-old Tonya Webster on March 11, 2016. Her body was found during a parole search of Batty’s house five days later.

The Greeley Tribune reports (bit.ly/2sw2n35) Batty pleaded guilty Thursday, less than three weeks before he was to face trial on a first-degree murder charge.

Court records say Batty and Webster met at a homeless shelter about three years before her death. Investigators say the final texts from her telephone indicated she was on her way to Batty’s house.

Batty faces between 16 and 48 years in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 14.
