WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - A part-time handyman will spend only three to 23 months in jail for stealing $927,000 from a retired couple, in part because he’s paid back the money.

The (West Chester) Daily Local News (https://bit.ly/2tNCbip ) reports 36-year-old Clifton Willson was sentenced Monday by a Chester County judge.

Willson was paid $900 a week as a part-time painter at the couple’s horse farm in Willistown and stole the money by making out 148 blank checks he stole from the couple to himself over seven years. Prosecutor say Willson, who also works as a psychotherapist, used the money to buy expensive cars, vacations, real estate investments and other luxuries. He paid off the debt by selling his home, among other means.

Willson blamed the thefts on being overmedicated with anti-depression drugs.
