LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 25-year-old substitute teacher is the latest Las Vegas-area school employee to face sex-related charges after authorities say he used social media to solicit sex from a 16-year-old female student.

Garic Wharton II was being held Friday without bail at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance Monday on a felony charge prohibiting sexual conduct between school employees and students.

It wasn’t clear from the jail record if he had an attorney.

Wharton is the 12th district employee arrested since last summer on allegations of inappropriate or illegal behavior with students.

District officials say he was hired as a substitute at South Academic Center in February, and was fired in May after school police began to investigate a tip from a student.
