PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo says Rhode Island will join a group of states committed to upholding the Paris climate agreement, after President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the international pact.
The governors of California, New York and Washington formed the United States Climate Alliance on Thursday after Trump’s announcement. Neighboring Connecticut has also joined.
Raimondo on Friday called Trump’s decision a tremendous mistake. She says climate change can have a big impact on Rhode Island’s communities, and the state is determined to fight climate change from the front lines so that we can preserve our environment for future generations.
She says doing so can create good-paying jobs in the process.
Rhode Island is home to the nation’s first offshore wind farm.
