VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The mother of a Virginia man awaiting trial on a murder charge has been charged with trying to have several witnesses against him killed.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (https://bit.ly/2smk7fj) 44-year-old Marie Antoinette Leary was arrested Saturday on five counts of soliciting first-degree murder. Her son, 19-year-old Marquel Leary, is accused of killing 19-year-old Taiwan Simon and robbing and seriously injuring another man in July 2016.
A bail document says Marie Leary used information revealed by prosecutors during the discovery process to come up with her hit list. Discovery is the procedure through which defendants find out information on the prosecution’s case.
It’s unclear if either Marie or Marquel Leary have attorneys.
