BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont philanthropist has announced he will match his last gift to the local Burlington YMCA with an additional $1 million.
Tony Pomerleau jokes he can’t really afford to come to the YMCA anymore since he donates a million dollars every time he visits. YMCA president Kyle Dodson tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2qMEQ9Y ) their campaign to construct a new building in 2018 has already achieved more than half of its $15 million goal.
Dodson says he hopes the future sale of the old facility will help close the $7 million gap to cover the center’s costs if fundraising meets its target.
Dodson also says the transition between the two buildings will be “seamless” - the YMCA will maintain the old location until the new building is completed.
