UBER DRIVER CITED $250 IN MIAMI FOR NOT SPEAKING ENGLISH

Miami-Dade officials say Carmen Hechavarria received a ticket after dropping off passengers at the Miami International Airport. A county ordinance says drivers of ride-hailing apps must be able to communicate in English. Uber spokesman Javi Correoso said Monday the app allows people to communicate even if they don’t speak English. It is how foreign-language speakers and deaf drivers can sign up.

PANTHER KILLED BY CAR IN FLORIDA; 15TH DEATH THIS YEAR

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the male panther’s remains were found Friday east of Immokalee in Hendry County. Officials said the panther was about 3 years old. Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern United States, but now their habitat mostly is confined to southwest Florida. Only about 230 Florida panthers remain in the wild.

MAN HELD WITHOUT BOND AFTER SHOOTING AT FLORIDA HOSPITAL

Florida Highway Patrol troopers took 38-year-old Jason Ronald Gignac of Summerfield to West Marion Community Hospital in Ocala on Saturday after finding him walking along a highway. Authorities have said Gignac grabbed one trooper’s gun and fired, wounding a nurse in the leg. Three troopers also suffered minor injuries while struggling with Gignac.

FLORIDA MAN FATALLY SHOT AT HIS OWN BIRTHDAY PARTY

Orange County deputies were called early Sunday to a home in Orlando where a birthday party was being held for 39-year-old Alexis Osmick. Authorities say “a disturbance occurred” and shots were fired. Olsson said Osmick suffered a gunshot wound and died at a hospital. The person who shot Osmick was cooperating with investigators, and no other suspects were being sought.

1 DEAD, 1 ARRESTED IN WEEKEND POLICE CAR CRASHES IN MIAMI

Authorities say 71-year-old Ramon Bueno died after a Miami police car collided with his Honda Civic on Saturday, and 38-year-old Bradys Balcinde was arrested Sunday after a chase led a Miami-Dade police car crashing into two SUVs. Miami-Dade police say the officer was assaulted before the pursuit and afterward went to a local hospital as a precaution.
