ATLANTA (AP) - A former local Republican leader in Georgia has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing children.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports (https://bit.ly/2te08zR ) 72-year-old Joseph Dendy pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to life in prison. He must serve at least 30 years.
Dendy was chairman of the Cobb County Republican Party from 2011 to 2015.
Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds says Dendy admitted committing repeated sexual offenses against two boys. The crimes occurred between 2004 and 2011 at Dendy’s home, his church, and in a store dressing room.
One victim, now an adult, said in court that he has nightmares of the abuse and became a military police officer to help other victims.
Dendy’s attorney, Brian Steel, did not immediately return a message left by the newspaper.
