JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Police in Mississippi say people inside an apartment thwarted an attempted break-in.

Jackson Police spokesman Cmdr. Tyree Jones tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/2ry2Kva ) that 28-year-old Marcus Funchess was arrested early Thursday.

Jones says Funchess knocked on the apartment door and then hit a man who answered on the head with a gun multiple times. Jones said other people inside the apartment jumped Funchess, tied his hands and feet and held him until police arrived.

Funchess and the man who answered the door were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Jones said Funchess faces charges of aggravated assault, attempted armed robbery. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment.
