MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - A judge has ruled that the Muscatine mayor removed by the City Council must be returned to office while her appeal is heard.
The Muscatine Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2rzpafs) that Judge Mark Smith ruled Friday that there were “inherent conflicts of interest” in the removal of Mayor Diana Broderson.
She’s appealing the council’s May 11 decision to remove her. A court hearing on the appeal is set for July 17. The council had agreed Thursday to appoint a new mayor before the general election in November.
A statement of charges against Broderson said her actions created unnecessary legal and staff costs and potential liability.
