10:10 p.m.
A fire that spread through grasslands in the Banning Pass area of Southern California is now 75 percent contained and crews expect to fully surround it by Friday afternoon.
Authorities say the blaze that erupted Thursday before noon has burned 105 acres of land but no homes are threatened.
The fire is about 85 miles (136.8 kilometers) east of Los Angeles. At its peak, 190 firefighters and 10 aircraft fought the flames.
Temperatures hit the 90s in the area and could reach 100 on Friday.
In rural Riverside County, a 28-acre fire near the community of Nuevo was 70 percent contained.
No homes are threatened.
Several other fires of no more than a few acres were reported around Southern California but authorities managed to quickly get a handle on them.

Firefighters have stopped the spread of a wildfire in the Banning Pass area of Southern California, where summerlike heat is building.
The 75-acre blaze is now 30 percent contained after erupting before noon Thursday.
No homes are threatened and no evacuations were called.
The fire is burning in a grassy area about 85 miles east of Los Angeles.

Firefighters are battling a wildland fire in the Banning Pass area of Southern California, where summerlike heat is building.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze was reported around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and grew to 43 acres (17 hectares) in 45 minutes.
More than 100 firefighters, two air tankers and a helicopter have been assigned to the fire, about 85 miles (137 kilometers) east of Los Angeles.
Midday temperatures are in the low 90s, with low relative humidity.
Northwest of Los Angeles, the Ventura County Fire Department says a brush fire in the Sandstone Peak area near Lake Sherwood is holding at less than an acre.
