NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Latest on New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s press conference (all times local):

11:15 a.m.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu canceled plans for his final “State of the City” speech Wednesday and instead spoke about the shooting in Virginia of U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

Landrieu says he does not know the motive behind the attack.

But the Democratic mayor says this is not a partisan issue.

He says an attack on any elected official or government worker because you’re upset with their side is an attack on the entire government.

Landrieu says the world sees political fighting, but may not realize that politicians respect each other and know each other personally.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is preparing to give his final “State of the City” speech.

The term-limited mayor has outlined plans and accomplishments each year after being elected in 2010. Wednesday morning’s speech follows the tumult over the removal of four Confederate-related monuments.

It also comes as the city is experiencing a surge in violent crimes, with Landrieu under heavy criticism from the District Attorney, among others.
