HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia say they’ve charged a man with attempted murder of a police officer.

Hampton police said in a press release Tuesday that Leonard Allen Morrison III shot an officer who chased him down after Monday’s attempted robbery of a GameStop.

The unidentified officer was wearing a ballistic vest and survived. Police said the 29-year-old suspect was shot multiple times by another officer at the scene. Morrison, from Washington, D.C., remains in the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Two other men were charged with robbery and related counts. They are 27-year-old Allen Jamal Ralph of Newport News and 21-year-old James Cole Gregory of Windsor.

Recordings from the officers’ body cameras were turned over to prosecutors. The officers are on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
