HARLEM, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia middle school teacher who authorities say asked a 14-year-old girl to send him explicit photographs via the social media app Snapchat has been arrested.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2sp1tH1 ) 46-year-old Joseph John Scalise Jr. was charged with felony sexual exploitation of a minor last Friday. Columbia County Sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris says the teen’s grandparents called authorities Thursday, but the alleged incident took place at an earlier date.

Columbia County School Superintendent Sandra Carraway says Scalise has been a teacher with the district for two years. She says his contract was approved for the upcoming school year, but will be terminated if he’s convicted. The incident has been reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

It’s unclear if Scalise has a lawyer. He’s being held without bond.
