MOHAWK, N.Y. (AP) - State police say an upstate New York woman has been wounded by a bullet intended to drain an above-ground swimming pool more than half a mile away.
Troopers say several people were firing at the side of a pool in the Herkimer County town of Mohawk on May 27 when a stray bullet struck the woman in the shoulder as she stood outside her house. She was treated at Albany Medical Center.
Police say a stray bullet is also believed to have struck a home in Mohawk.
One of the swimming pool shooters, a 45-year-old Connecticut man, was ticketed for criminal possession of a weapon because he had a permit for his .22-caliber revolver in his home state but not in New York.
