LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Latest on a fire at a Los Angeles apartment construction site (all times local):

5 p.m.

Authorities say a man has been arrested after a fire that burned a Los Angeles construction site, damaged adjacent structures and injured a firefighter.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says 20-year-old Benicio Garcia has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the Monday morning blaze.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in east Hollywood where two apartment buildings were in the wood frame stage of construction.

Authorities said the fire damaged an occupied apartment building and a single-family home around the construction site. Twenty people were displaced from their homes.

A firefighter was struck by falling debris and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Fire officials say Garcia is being held on $75,000 bail. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment.

A fire that erupted in a Los Angeles construction site and damaged adjacent residences is now considered to be of suspicious origin.

Fire Capt. Erik Scott tells KTTV arson investigators quickly examined the scene early Monday and a person of interest has been detained for questioning.

The person is only described as an adult male.

The fire erupted around 6 a.m. at an east Hollywood site where two apartment buildings were in the wood frame stage of construction.

Flames damaged an occupied apartment building on one side of the fire and a single-family home on the other side.

Twenty people have been displaced from their homes and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Another structure fire occurred about a block away and it is also under investigation.

Twenty people have been displaced by a fire that burned a Los Angeles construction site, damaged adjacent structures and injured a firefighter.

The burned fiercely in early Monday in the wood framing of an east Hollywood apartment complex under construction, blew out windows in an adjacent multi-story apartment building and damaged a single-family home on the other side of the blaze.

The Fire Department says 10 adults and 10 children have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Public information officer Erik Scott says the injured firefighter was struck by falling debris. The department says she was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is in good condition.

Fire has damaged two apartment buildings under construction in the east Hollywood area of Los Angeles.

The fire burned fiercely in the two multistory buildings and threatened adjacent structures early Monday before firefighters unleashed streams of water.

The buildings were in the wood-frame stage of construction.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
