AXTON, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist is dead after being hit by a drunk driver in Virginia.

Virginia State Police say the crash happened Sunday in Henry County. State police said in a statement that the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling on Roue 610 near Route 1043 when he ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the roadway’s center line and struck a motorcyclist.

State Police say the motorcycle’s driver, 61-year-old Tommy Lee Matherly of Martinsville, Virginia, died as a result of his injuries. State police say the car’s driver, 56-year-old William Authur Shipwash of Eden, North Carolina, was taken to the hospital with injuries.

State police say Shipwash was charged with driving while intoxicated. The crash remains under investigation.
