NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu calls climate change a “real and present danger” to his city and other coastal communities.

Landrieu issued a statement Thursday reacting to President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the international climate agreement known as the Paris Accord.

Landrieu said climate change adds to the potential of rising sea levels - part of a triple threat for Louisiana that also includes coastal erosion and soil subsidence. He touted his participation in the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, which includes more than 7,400 mayors in 119 countries. And he called on leaders of cities to work together to develop a “low-carbon economy” that will minimize climate risk while creating new jobs.
