OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Latest on a fire at an Oakland construction site (all times local):

4:45 p.m.

Oakland is blocking off streets surrounding a burned building site until crews can take down a giant construction crane hanging over the neighborhood.

Friday’s early morning fire destroyed the seven-story building site but there were no injuries.

Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Erik Logan says traffic and residents are temporarily blocked from the area as a precaution.

Logan says crews will work over the weekend to secure and take down the untethered construction crane that authorities fear could collapse.

Crews will also demolish burned scaffolding hanging over the site.

Logan says fire investigators will enter the site after it is safe.

At least 10 evacuated residents are staying at an emergency shelter. Others have gone to family and friends.

Officials say a fire is out after destroying an Oakland construction site. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on the scene Friday to control hot spots.

At least 700 residents were evacuated from buildings near the site and many will spend the night in a nearby emergency shelter near Lake Merritt.

The crane, which was swinging around on its own amid the flames, is adding additional concerns to firefighters.

Firefighters are pouring numerous streams of water onto the blaze, which broke out in the 7-story building before dawn Friday at 24th and Valdez streets.
