CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Ethics Commission has issued its version of an indictment to the clerk of the Court of Claims over allegations that she used her office for others’ private gain.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the commission’s Probable Cause Review Board ruled on Thursday that there’s significant reason to believe Cheryle M. Hall’s office paid thousands of dollars in unearned wages and benefits to two employees as a result of Hall’s intentional use of an unsanctioned leave system.
The board’s ruling comes after a state audit found up to $23,597 paid to employees in unearned wages or for leave not taken.
Hall has said one of the employees is a single mother who was undergoing physical therapy following a car crash.
She will appear at a public hearing in September.
