SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Emergency crews have recovered a body believed to be that of a 9-year-old boy who was swept away in a river below a Tennessee dam.
Local outlets report Scott Johnson with the Bedford County Emergency Management Agency said at a news conference that crews on Thursday afternoon found a body 3 miles (5 kilometers) west of where Dreyton Sims disappeared in the Duck River on Tuesday.
A medical examiner hasn’t confirmed the identity, but Johnson said officials believe the body belongs to the missing boy.
Sims was swept downstream while swimming with his brother. Officials had said conditions on the water were worsened by rising levels as a result of water being let out of the Normandy dam. Johnson said the swiftness of the water and debris complicated search efforts.
