With the final vote scheduled to end at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, teammates and local celebrities alike united on Twitter to #VoteRendon in a last-ditch attempt to send Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon to the MLB All-Star Game.

Starting at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, MLB began counting tweets featuring each player’s unique hashtag as official votes. Some fans took this as a chance to get creative, such as Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer and D.C. native Katie Ledecky.

Other local athletes pitched in too, such as Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal.

Even non-athletes got in on the fun, food blog Grilling with Rich offering a charitable incentive to #VoteRendon.

The Capitals, Redskins and Wizards also did their part, casting votes in support of their D.C. neighbor.

Of course, many of Rendon’s most vocal supporters were his fellow Nationals, including shortstop Trea Turner and All-Star outfielder Bryce Harper.

Rendon, who is batting .297 with 16 home runs and 51 runs batted in, entered Thursday in third-place in the NL Final Vote, trailing two other third basemen: Justin Turner of the Dodgers and Kris Bryant of the Cubs.
