PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Three people are dead and one wounded after an apparent after-hours holdup by two gunmen at a barber shop, Alabama police said.
People in the Hook-Up Barber and Style Shop in Prattville identified one of the gunmen, but the other man’s face was covered, Police Chief Mark Thompson told news outlets.
He said the pair knocked late Monday, and people in the shop let them in because they knew Marty Morgan, 35, of Prattville. Police are now searching for Morgan.
Police said Morgan carried a handgun.
“He had another male with him dressed in black with some kind of mask on his face and he was armed with a shotgun,” Thompson told WSFA-TV . “They entered the barbershop and shortly after that, shots started being fired by the two suspects.”
Morgan is wanted on three counts of murder, one of attempted murder and seven counts of robbery, Thompson said.
Central Alabama Crimestoppers offered up to $1,000 for tips about Morgan’s whereabouts.
Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names. The fourth victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Thompson said.
Public records show that Morgan plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in 2012, AL.com reported.
Alvin Weaver, watching the town’s Fourth of July parade, said he couldn’t believe it when his wife read him an article about the killing.
“I told her that she had to be wrong, that it couldn’t be in Prattville. That it must have happened somewhere else, like Montgomery or Birmingham,” he told the Montgomery Advertiser . “But it was here.”
Thompson told the newspaper that Prattville averages two killings a year.
Prattville is about 13 miles northwest of Montgomery.
