The Latest on the MLB non-waiver trade deadline (all times EDT):

5:03 p.m.

The Texas Rangers have traded star pitcher Yu Darvish to the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers for three minor league players.

The 30-year-old Darvish is a four-time All-Star who is 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA in 22 starts this season as he comes back from Tommy John surgery.

The Dodgers have the best record in the majors while Texas has struggled below .500.

The Baltimore Orioles bolstered their injury-depleted infield by acquiring Tim Beckham from the Tampa Bay Rays for a minor league pitcher.

Beckham is batting .259 in 87 games with the Rays. He’s played second base, third and shortstop.

The Orioles need a backup because shortstop J.J. Hardy and utility infielder Ryan Flaherty are on the disabled list.

Tampa Bay received right-hander Tobias Myers in the deal.

Although Baltimore started the day with a 50-54 record, Vice President Dan Duquette turned out to be a buyer rather than a seller before the expiration of the non-waiver trade deadline.

The Orioles obtained minor league pitcher Yefry Ramirez from the Yankees for international signing bonus pool money, and over the weekend Baltimore obtained starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson, who will start Wednesday.

Reliever David Hernandez is coming back to Arizona after being traded to the Diamondbacks by the Los Angeles Angels just before Monday’s deadline.

Hernandez pitched for the Diamondbacks from 2011 through 2015 and ranks high on several franchise lists for relievers, including first in holds, third in appearances and third in strikeouts.

With the Angels, he pitched 36 1-3 innings, allowing nine runs while striking out 37, and walking eight in 38 appearances.

In exchange, Arizona sent to the Angels Luis Madero, a 23-year-old right-hander. Madero has split time between Rookie League Missoula and Class A Hillsboro, going 4-2 with a 5.69 ERA.

In addition, the Diamondbacks moved shortstop Nick Ahmed to the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.

The Washington Nationals have added another late-inning reliever by acquiring right-hander Brandon Kintzler from the Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota gets 24-year-old left-handed pitching prospect Tyler Watson and $500,000 in international bonus pool money in the deal.

Kintzler was 28 of 32 in save opportunities this season. He’s expected to join former Oakland relievers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle in the back of the Nationals’ bullpen.

The 32-year-old Kintzler has a 2.48 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 11 walks this season. Washington’s 5.07 bullpen ERA is worst in the National League.

Watson has a 4.43 ERA in 14 relief appearances at the Single-A level this season.

The Houston Astros added depth to their starting staff in a trade-deadline deal, getting left-hander Francisco Liriano from the Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Nori Aoki and minor leaguer Teoscar Hernandez.

The 33-year-old Liriano, 33 is 6-5 with a 5.88 ERA in 18 starts for the Blue Jays this season.

Aoki hit .272 in 71 games in his first season in Houston. He had 12 doubles and 19 RBIs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up some bullpen help at the trade deadline, acquiring former Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star reliever Tony Watson.

The 32-year-old Watson is 5-3 with a 3.66 ERA in 47 games for the Pirates this season. Watson also has 10 saves after beginning the season as Pittsburgh’s closer but was removed in favor of Felipe Rivero after blowing consecutive save opportunities in Baltimore in June.

Watson was an All-Star in 2014 while serving as a setup man for Mark Melancon. Watson, who will become a free agent in December, is also highly durable. He’s made 450 appearances since making his major league debut in 2011.

The Milwaukee Brewers have reacquired right-hander Jeremy Jeffress a year after sending their former closer and first-round draft pick to the Texas Rangers.

In a deal announced right at the non-waiver trade deadline Monday, the Rangers sent Jeffress back to Milwaukee for Double-A pitcher Tayler Scott.

Jeffress was the 16th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft by the Brewers. He had been sent with two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy to Texas exactly 52 weeks earlier in another deadline deal. Lucroy was traded by Texas to Colorado on Sunday night.

In 39 games this season, Jeffress is 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA, and allowed a home run in each of his last four appearances. He had 27 saves last year with Milwaukee before getting traded, and is 9-3 overall with a 2.38 ERA in 158 games for the Brewers.

Scott is 4-6 with a 2.34 ERA in 42 appearances for Double-A Biloxi this season.

4:15 p.m.

The Cleveland Indians added another arm for their bullpen, acquiring right-hander Joe Smith from Toronto for two minor leaguers.

The 33-year-old Smith is 3-0 with a 3.28 ERA in 38 appearances this season. He returns to Cleveland after pitching for the Indians for five seasons from 2009-2013.

Cleveland won the American League pennant last season behind Andrew Miller and the bullpen, and the AL Central leaders would like to have as many strong relief options as possible for the stretch run this year.

Only minutes before the non-waiver trade deadline, Yu Darvish has tweeted a picture of himself standing at his locker in the Rangers clubhouse wearing a Texas cap.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Rangers might trade Darvish, the right-hander from Japan who can be a free agent after this season.

His tweet came moments after Justin Verlander, the subject of many trade rumors, tweeted a selfie of himself in the Tigers clubhouse at Yankee Stadium and an update of his status. He said he was still with Detroit. His catcher Alex Avila, though, was traded to the Cubs earlier in the day.

Pitcher Sonny Gray has been traded to the Yankees from the Oakland Athletics for three prospects, boosting New York’s starting rotation for an unexpected playoff run.

Oakland gets right-hander James Kaprielian, a former first-round draft pick recovering from Tommy John surgery; Jorge Mateo, a top prospect who plays shortstop and the outfield; and Dustin Fowler, an outfielder who made his major league debut in June. New York also receives $1.5 million in international signing bonus allocation from the A’s.

Gray slots into the middle of a rotation that includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia and Jaime Garcia, who was acquired Sunday from Minnesota.

A 27-year-old right-hander who has been slowed by a series of injuries, Gray is 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 16 starts this season and is 4-2 with a 1.37 ERA in his last six starts. He makes $3,575,000 and is not eligible for free agency until after the 2019 season.

A person familiar with the deal says reliever Jeremy Jeffress is being traded back to Milwaukee, a year after the Brewers sent their closer and former first-round pick to the Texas Rangers in another deal at the non-waiver trade deadline.

That person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither team has confirmed the trade in advance of the non-waiver trade deadline.

The Rangers will get Double-A pitcher Tayler Scott for returning Jeffress to Milwaukee.

Jeffress was the 16th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft by the Brewers. He was sent with two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy to Texas exactly 52 weeks ago. Lucroy was traded by Texas to Colorado on Sunday night.

In 39 games this season, Jeffress is 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA, and allowed a home run in each of his last four appearances. He had 27 saves last year with Milwaukee before getting traded to Texas.

2:09 p.m.

Infielder Adam Rosales has been traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league right-hander Jeferson Mejia.

Rosales, who filled in at shortstop for 36 of the 38 games when starter Marcus Semien was hurt earlier this season, is no stranger to switching teams. And the last-place A’s are dealing again for prospects as they have historically done.

During an 11-day span late in the 2013 season, Rosales was claimed off waivers by Texas from Oakland, went back to the A’s off waivers from the Rangers and then returned to Texas once again on waivers only to watch his former team win the AL West without him.

Rosales returned for a second stint with the A’s this year . Rosales was batting .234 with four homers and 27 RBIs in 71 games.

The 22-year-old Mejia was 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA in 18 relief appearances Single-A Kane County before going to Class-A short season Hillsboro, where he made three relief outings. He combined to go 1-1 with a 6.21 ERA.

2 p.m.

The Mets have agreed to trade reliever Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox for three 22-year-old right-handed pitching prospects, a deal contingent on the teams approving medical records of the players involved.

Boston would send New York right-handers Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek.

Reed, a 31-year-old right-hander, is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 19 saves in 21 chances. He took over as New York’s closer this season because of Jeurys Familia’s domestic-violence suspension and shoulder surgery.

Reed has a $7.75 million salary and can become a free agent after the World Series. New York already has a replacement after acquiring Miami Marlins closer A.J. Ramos on Friday. Ramos is eligible for free agency after the 2018 season.

10:55 a.m.

The Chicago Cubs have acquired reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila in a trade with the Detroit Tigers, bolstering their chance for another long playoff run.

The addition of Wilson gives manager Joe Maddon another late-inning option in front of All-Star closer Wade Davis. The World Series champions had been searching for backup catcher since they cut Miguel Montero a month ago, and Avila is having one of the best seasons of his career at the plate.

The Tigers received minor league infielders Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes and a player to be named or cash consideration in Monday’s trade. The 23-year-old Candelario was considered one of Chicago’s top prospects, but he was blocked at the major league level by NL MVP Kris Bryant and first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

The major league non-waiver trade deadline is Monday at 4 p.m. EDT.
