Max Scherzer has performed plenty of unbelievable feats in his time with the Nationals, throwing multiple no-hitters and striking out 20 batters in a single game in 2016.
This photo of Scherzer, however, simply needs to be seen to be believed:

Posted to Twitter on Monday by Deadspin’s Lindsey Adler, the image quickly went viral. Several users disagreed with Adler’s take, arguing for the photo’s artistic value.
At least this photographer was trying something different rather than shooting the same pitcher action photo.

It’s… majestic. It’s art that is far ahead of its time. I must get a high-res image framed for my home.

Meanwhile, one person noted the image’s similarities to the statue of Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson at Nationals Park.

The way Scherzer has been pitching the last few seasons, one wouldn’t be surprised if Scherzer got his own weird statue in Nationals Park some day.
