Trailing the NL East-leading Washington Nationals by 14 games, the New York Mets have become sellers ahead of Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, sending closer Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox for three minor leaguers.

While the Mets as a whole have struggled this season, Reed enjoyed a strong start to the 2017 campaign. The right-hander takes a 2.57 ERA to Boston, having converted 19 of 21 save opportunities.
In return for Reed, the Mets received a trio of right-handed pitchers, all three ranked among Boston’s top 30 prospects according to MLB.com.
The Red Sox hope Reed strengthens the back end of their bullpen as they pursue the AL East title. Boston currently tops the American League wild card standings, but is only a half game back of the New York Yankees in the division.
