WAREHAM, Mass. (AP) - An 8-year-old boy who had been rescued earlier in the week after the boat he was in capsized has died.

The Boston Globe reports that Sudbury Schools Superintendent Anne Wilson expressed condolences for the death of the third-grader in a district-wide email Sunday afternoon.

Wilson wrote that Harry O’Connor and his family were involved in a boating accident Wednesday off Wareham. He was one of 12 people rescued from the boat.

Authorities had reported on Wednesday that O’Connor was underwater for about 24 minutes before he was rescued by commercial diver Michael Margulis.

Wilson said counselors will be at Nixon Elementary School and Curtis Middle School on Monday between 1 and 3 p.m.

Wilson said in the email that nothing compares to the grief and sadness of losing a child.
