PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A group of Maine brewers is fighting President Donald Trump’s plan to change clean water regulation.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2siakGt ) Rising Tide Brewing Co., Baxter Brewing Co., Allagash Brewing Co. and Maine Beer Co. signed a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers disagreeing with changes to the Clean Water Rule.

Under the current rule, the agencies can regulate ponds, lakes, rivers and streams that feed into navigable bodies of water. President Trump’s changes would limit regulatory powers to navigable bodies of water.

The brewers say quality beer depends on clean water that’s protected by the rule.

Supporters of the rule change say current regulation is oppressive.

The EPA plans to roll back guidelines within the next year.
