OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The Durham Museum in Omaha has announced it has received funding to begin a $2.7 million project to completely restore the exterior of Union Station, in which it’s located.
A news release from the museum says funding for the project came from private sources within the community.
Built in 1931, Union Station served as a train station for forty years and has since served as a museum for nearly 43 years. Last year, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark.
Periodic repairs have been made to the exterior facade, but severe weathering has led to persistent water leaks, making complete restoration necessary.
Work is set to begin this month and be completed by November 2018. The work will be performed by McGill Restoration, of Omaha.
